Professionals

Estelle Toby Goldstein, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is licensed to practice in the state of California. She holds a valid license from the DEA to write prescriptions.

Her philosophy includes working with other professionals to get the best treatment for her patient. Medical specialists in other fields, psychotherapists and alternative practitioners are among her allies in her pursuit of optimum treatment.

Having served residencies in general surgery, neurology, neurological surgery and psychiatry, as well as fellowships in neurology and psychopharmacology, Dr. Goldstein has adopted the Engelian paradigm: Biological-Psychological-Social.

Her treatment starts off with a review of the medical records a patient has generated, or with orders for a physical, blood tests, and whatever else might be needed. After determining whether or not there is a biological source for the problem, Dr. Goldstein then searches for a psychological problem. Finally, the search for a social cause for the problem is examined.

Using evidence-based medicine, and researching the latest developments in the specific field being investigated, Dr. Goldstein formulates a treatment plan and discusses it fully with the patient. The patient is urged to sign releases to all relevant practitioners so vital information can be shared.

"Insurance does not pay for this level of service, which is why I do not accept insurance. What I can provide is a deeper and more thorough assessment than any insurance network can provide. Advanced knowledge, and personalized care. I welcome cases that have proven to be diagnostic or treatment problems that cannot be adequately served by HMOs or PPOs. Moreover, I return cases to the people who refer them to me, and will make further referrals through a mutually satisfactory working relationship."

Some of the professions represented in Dr. Goldstein's network include general medical doctors, neurologists, oncologists, psychologists, hypnotherapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists and herbalists.

She considers it her duty to keep up with the latest research and has broad-ranging interests in many fields. She spends time in the medical libraries of SDSU and using the internet to access areas available only to doctors. She subscribes to the major medical journals and to specialty journals and keeps abreast of the popular literature to see what is being presented to the public.

She would love to correspond or meet with her colleagues, and is always willing to discuss new and exciting developments. Please feel free to send an email, or call the office and ask for an appointment to come get acquainted or to have Dr. Goldstein visit you.
